[Icemule Trace, Town Center]
The bustling town comes together in this square. Halflings dressed in varying fashions stand about, some chattering happily, others reclining on cloaks laid on the ground. One ancient halfling leans against the base of the large ice statue of a mule, snoring blissfully. A feeling of community pervades the area, putting you immediately at ease. You also see the Ericos disk, the Alanamarie disk, some flowing robes, a plain gold hat, a light crossbow bolt, a carved ice bench with some stuff on it and a painted felt ger.

[Magical Burrow, Dervish Park]
The snow and ice which dominate Icemule Trace stop abruptly at the fenceline of the park. In their place sits a wide open greensward full of laughing children running everywhere. A strange glow hangs about the area, an odd magical field, slightly shimmering, its outer edge falling right at the snowline. A tall statue comprised of ten wizened halflings in enruned robes stands majestically at the center of the field. You also see a red and black ceramic-tiled townhouse, a low mithril gate, a splendid colorful tiled home, a plain residence, a crenellated dark stone manor and an ancient dark stone manor.

You rub a shell-shaped thin crystal pin.
You feel your mind open up to the world around you.

You hear the faint thoughts of Ygriane echo in your mind:
"Thurfel just vanished most of us from the vault....prolly closed the portal too"

You focus your mind on Thurfel and think:
"My lord are ye allright?"

[Magical Burrow, Dirge Street]
A low mithril gate stands at the entrance to Dervish Park. The fence surrounding the sanctuary is obscured with a silvery haze, blocking the view of the grounds beyond as well. The open gate is finely crafted from the purest mithril, beckoning visitors to enter and discover what lies on the other side. You also see a plain home.

[Great Cavern, Stalagmite Forest]
The stalagmites and stalactites stand farther apart as the cavern opens to the south. The cavern slopes downward and is quickly covered by a layer of mud and plant debris. The thin layers of mist behind you are replaced by a thick yellow fog that shrouds the bog below you.

You hear the faint thoughts of Tzuriz touch your mind:

[Great Cavern, Bog]
The mud moves underneath the platform of vines on which you stand. It may be some great slimy creature moving about, or it may be a river flowing below you. In any event, a nearby stalagmite serves as a welcome crutch as the vines slip about unsteadily.

[Great Cavern, Bog]
The cavern narrows suddenly, its walls pressing inwards and the ceiling descending. Fog swirls in from all sides and pours into the huge opening creating a curtain of mist. Beneath your feet, the muck is definitely flowing slowly into the arch.

[Subterranean Lake, Shore]
Before you stretches a vast underground lake. The ceiling and the far shore are lost in darkness and mist, but there is enough water here to create small waves lapping at your feet. As elsewhere in the great cavern, stalagmites rise out of the murky water. Beyond them huddles the dark form of an island.

[Subterranean Lake, Shore]
Masses of lichen cover the wall of the cavern and drape out into the stagnant water. They cling among the stalagmites dotting the lake forming a natural bridge across its surface. How sturdy it is is anybody's guess.

[Thurfel's Island]
A very large statue of a very squat halfling has been constructed on the tip of the island. It stands upon a pedestal of polished pink coral, and is made completely from eroded chunks of seaglass. In spite of the odd material used to create the artwork, the piece is quite detailed. You also see the Daryanna disk and a dark grey velvet tent.

A strong whirlwind whips through the area, stirring up dust and other small pieces of debris, which form a small cloud overhead.
The whirlwind subsides, allowing the dust cloud to settle.

Naessi asks, "He didn't even tell YOU?"

Thurfel carefully places the staff into the altar, fitting it into the small hole in the center of the obsidian. He looks up with a smirk on his face, and shouts into the shadows, "I have fulfilled my end of the bargain, I have brought you the nine, they are yours to punish as you wish."

Jacinto stares off into space.

There is an ominous moment of silence, then a searing wall of flame rushes into the chamber. The fire takes the shape of a serpent, its eyes glowing with a steely malevolence. The beast locks eyes with all in the room, then fixes its gaze upon Thurfel.

You slowly and deliberately empty your filled lungs.

Xulia gawks at Thurfel.

Jacinto says, "As predicted."

Roggin stares at Thurfel.

The fiery serpent coils its body about the altar, coating the obsidian in a blanket of crimson flame. The nine orbs about the altar flicker momentarily, then go black. A moment later, they shatter into a thousand shards of glass.

Ahira says, "Great"

Roggin exclaims, "oh goddess preserve us all!"

Kadesha begins to twitch.

Mytmo glances at Thurfel.

Gahread says, "I suppose this isn't a good time to say "I told you so."

Perigourd says, "you see.."

The altar begins to shudder, the harsh flames of the serpent finally taking their toll. The tail of the beast flicks out and shatters the obsidian construction, pieces of stone flying in every direction.

Evelith stands up.

The flames of the serpent then turn to Thurfel, enveloping him in a cloud of crimson fire. The fire mage screams in agony, the flesh dripping off his body like candle wax. In a heartbeat, there is nothing left of the fire mage. As his final bellow of pain rings through the chamber, the serpent turns to you all and says, "And you all may join him."

The chamber fills with flames, there is no escape from the agony of the fire. The serpent vanishes without a trace, leaving only the fire behind.

Cappurnicus begins to do his best to mend his wounded leg.
